Mr. Matthew Sala is a UK trained Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising in all shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand conditions, including fractures, sport and soft tissue injuries.

After qualifying from the University of Liverpool Medical School, he completed specialist training on the North Thames rotation, including University College Hospital, St Mary’s Paddington, Hammersmith and Charing Cross Hospitals. He was awarded FRCS in 1990, FRCS (Orth) in 1997 and CCST in 1999.

He undertook his fellowship at the University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada, including attachments to the Hand Unit, London, Ontario, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and the Hospital for Special Surgery, New York City.

In 2000, Mr. Sala was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Northwick Park and Central Middlesex Hospitals where he is currently Clinical Lead for Shoulder Surgery. He also manages a tertiary referral service for complex shoulder problems.

He was appointed as Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College School of Medicine in 2001.

Mr. Sala has extensive experience in arthroscopic shoulder surgery and pioneered the use of collagen scaffold and inflatable spacer implants in rotator cuff repair. He is actively engaged in the Exactech Shoulder Replacement Steering Group and provides advanced surgeon training.

Mr. Sala was also selected to provide specialist shoulder and upper limb advice for the London 2012 Olympics.
